About One

I first encountered Jason’s music when I participated in a student exchange program
in New York (2000). Jason and his big band played every Monday at the Small’s club.
His music was colorful and exciting to me. I used to close my eyes and visualize the music in
shapes and colors. My excitment came to a peek whenever they played “Suheir”.
I dreamt of turning “Suheir” into an animation film, which will capture my own personal
visualization of this fantastic piece of music. My work “One” is a colorful animation of “Suheir”.

“One” is my second endeavor in my own personal quest to understand how music “looks like”.
I constantly ask myself what are the “colors” of music, in what space does music “live”.
If it’s moving ahead, then in which directions?

These questions lead me in the preliminary analysis of music on my way to prepare
an animation that will “show the music”. Being a saxophone player, my musical skill enables me to
observe music and then translate it into the language of forms and patterns. My musical side and my
artist side meet and create this unique experience. I find this journey in the land of music, forms, colors
and patterns exciting and rewarding; and it’s thrilling to discover I still have a long road ahead of me.
